£29.90
This beautiful wall art picture of the entrance door to the Our Lady from Damascus church in Valletta Malta comes in variety of styles from almost abstract oil painting to photorealistic watercolour.
The original church was built upon the request of Giovanni Calamia to house the icon of “Our Lady of Damascus”, the picture was brought over from Rhodes by the Knights of St John when they were expelled from the island by the Ottoman Empire. On March 24, 1942, during one of the bombings of Valletta, the Church of Our Lady of Damascus was hit and completely destroyed. The Church was rebuilt and reconsecrated on August 15, 1951 by Archbishop Georgios Halavazis.
The original Byzantine door in this wall art picture is one of the parts that survived the bombing and this wall art picture captures the tale of the biblical story from Adam and Eve to Jesus Christ’s reincarnation on the door.
